The MOST Important SUPPLEMENTS are FOOD

Nutrient-dense foods, the BEST supplement your diet could ever have.
Many people ask me what are the most important supplements to take?

To answer this with just one supplement is hard when few people understand the basis of the nutritional burden that MOST people's bodies are under from their diet.

FOODS are the most important supplements.  NUTRIENT DENSE FOODS are the most important "supplements" ever.  Don't get me wrong, we do believe in taking certain supplements in my family, but the MAIN portion of your nutritional load and ours should be consumed through nutritious foods, sacred foods.

I think there are many supplements to adjunct a healthy diet, to compensate for years of nutritional diet deficiencies and/or soil deficiencies etc., but IF you LEARN the proper nutritional NEEDS of your body, you will begin to understand why supplements are just that - a supplement to a healthy diet and not necessarily a cure-all.   Supplements need to be second to a main focus of nutritional eating.

Why all the talk from me about high-vitamin cod liver oils, activator X, vitamin K2, high vitamin butter oils, organ meats, raw milk .... SUPPLEMENTS or FOODS

Teeth remineralization, slowed degeneration, bone healing, healed dental caries, and much MORE...from FOOD?

YES!  From FOOD!

This was the life's work of Dr. Weston A. Price!  Over 60 years ago, he found that when treating patients with certain foods, sacred foods, that their bodies responded with HEALING!

This is HUGE.  This is why the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) has continued in the dissemination of his work 60 years later after his discoveries.  If you could heal a cavity, heal a bone fracture, turn back the clock on degeneration in your body, wouldn't you want to do that?

That is WHY I am so adamant about the research and the studies of the WAPF today.

We now know that the elusive X-factor that Dr. Price found is vitamin K2...found primarily in good quality butter from grass fed-cows, or in high-vitamin butter oil, fat from grass-fed animals, cheeses from grass-fed animals, duck or goose livers, and in high-vitamin cod liver oils.

Dr. Price also found that when he gave his patients cod liver oil along with high-vitamin butter oil (a process that by centrifuge yields a higher nutritional density of butter's qualities than just plain butter-although good quality butter is still valued) that a SYNERGY took place and the healing was quicker than one supplement or food alone.

Dr. Price studied the diets of people from around the world to determine the most nutrient dense foods and what we call sacred foods of today.  This research is invaluable and yet so overlooked by most doctors and nutritionists today.

Raw milk, grass-fed meats and organ meats, animal fats, raw cheeses, lacto-fermented vegetables, properly prepared grains, bone broths, cod liver oils...keep these FOODS in your diet to SUPPLEMENT better health.

The best high-vitamin cod liver oils to take or the best high-vitamin butter oils to take are hands down Green Pasture Products.  They are at the moment the only company who practices the traditional manufacturing of these foods, whereby containing the NATURAL VITAMINS in the oils verses adding SYNTHETIC vitamins in the oils.  Think this would make a difference in your body?  Absolutely.

For WAPF Cod Liver Oil Brand Recommendations click here.

For more understanding on WHY YOUR BODY NEEDS cod liver oil and WHY the cod liver oil debate, click here.

To understand MORE ABOUT the X-Factor or Vitamin K2, click here.

We have to fight for the freedom to maintain the health of our society from money hungry corporations and laws infringing on our rights to obtain these sacred foods that have such healing properties to our bodies...it is a shame and an outcry!  An OUTRAGE!  To READ more about the Farm to Consumer Foundation and SUPPORT the Farm to Consumer Foundation, click here.

(Not sure where to begin?  If you want to know more about how to incorporate nutrient dense foods in your diet, click here to read about the REAL Food Challenge 2013 or take a class from Kelly, the Kitchen Kop to learn more at your own convenience.)

Another great place to start learning traditional foods is the book Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon.

Cheeseburger in a Bowl or on A Salad

Cheeseburger in a Bowl Here is great way to enjoy a "cheeseburger" fortified meal with B vitamins and healthy fats.

This is what we call "Cheeseburger in a Bowl."  It is very good!  It can be eaten directly from a bowl by itself or on a salad.

Unfortunately, I don't measure here, this is according to your taste and meal size needed, but these are the ingredients I use to make this.

Ingredients:
-grass-fed ground beef
-chopped onions, amount according to your preference
-coconut oil to cook with, if your beef is lean
-prepared yellow mustard
-nutritional yeast flakes
-sea salt and pepper
-cayenne or hot sauce (optional)
Once beef and onions are browned in pan, add prepared yellow mustard, a generous amount of nutritional yeast, and a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper...if you like it a tad spicy- add a splash of hot sauce or cayenne.   Serve this in a bowl or on a bed of lettuce.  We generally add fresh avocados and some extra uncooked sweet onion to our salads when serving this.  If you wanted fresh tomatoes or even a dollop of sour cream or homemade mayonnaise which adds an additional "cheeseburger" experience.

We love homemade cheeseburger patties with all these toppings too, but this is an easy one-pot way of providing a cheeseburger type of meal in minutes!  Hope you enjoy  :)

Day 3 of Raw Milk Fast/ Milk Cure

Raw Milk=Real Milk.com
The thought of a raw milk fast for most people is unheard of...but it is not a new concept.  I have been entertaining the idea of doing a raw milk fast for the health benefits for the last few years now and several of us in the REAL Food Challenge 2013 (click here for Facebook group) have gotten together to do it this week.

RAW MILK FAST
Today is Day 3 of the 5 day fast and so far it has been great!  I have felt great and have had no hunger.  Of course the thought of food is present at times through out the day, but as I listen to my body's satiation with the presence of raw milk, it is not an unsurmountable hurdle to overcome.  I have been very content and satisfied so far.

THE MILK CURE
The Milk Cure has been used for years with admirable results for many health diseases and problems in the 1900's.

(PLEASE NOTE:  as mentioned in the preface to the article:  The milk used was, in all cases, the only kind of milk available in those days—raw milk from pasture-fed cows, rich in butterfat.)

Here are a few excerpts from the writings of Dr. J.R. Crewe, of the Mayo Foundation from January 1929:   (The entire article can be found for viewing or printing here, it is worth the read.)

"When sick people are limited to a diet containing an excess of vitamins and all the elements necessary to growth and maintenance, which are available in milk, they recover rapidly without the use of drugs and without bringing to bear all the complicated weapons of modern medicine."

"It is well known that there is no time in the life of practically any mammal, but especially of the human, when the body is so beautiful and perfect as during the period when milk is the only food. It will be admitted that there is no period in life when the body is so perfect as in infancy, the infant being fed on milk from a healthy mother."

"The experience of seeing many cases of illness improve rapidly on a diet of raw milk has suggested more and more the feeling that much of modern disease is due to an increasing departure from simple methods of preparing plain foods. The treatment of various diseases over a period of 18 years with a practically exclusive milk diet has convinced me personally that the most important single factor in the cause of disease and in the resistance to disease is food. I have seen so many instances of the rapid and marked response to this form of treatment that nothing could make me believe this is not so."

"Indeed we had a number of patients who took the treatment for “beauty treatment.” The tissues become firmer and the general appearance is markedly improved."

"Hypertension responds with equal gratification. The blood pressure improves rapidly. I have never seen such rapid and lasting results by any other method. One of the patients lived almost exclusively on milk for more than three years."
Sarah Pope, of the Healthy Home Economist blog, has posted some wonderful information here about her experiences with the raw milk fast in 2012, 2013, and also a list of "Do's and Don'ts" here.

Run a 5K! If ...Your Dog's Not Wearing Your Shoes...

Whose in Your Shoes?Who's in your shoes?

With the thought of warmer weather around the corner, so are my thoughts of getting in it!  Running on a treadmill is nothing like running in the great outdoors.

Have you ever considered running for pleasure or sport?  If you have always wanted to try to run or jog, a great place to start is the Couch to 5K program.

Even if you don't have ambitions of competing in a 5K race, it is a great place for beginners to condition themselves and get the feel for a running pace.

Here are some links for the basics on the Couch to 5K program:

Beginner Triathlete.com has the Conservative and Aggressive Run Programs.
If you want to download a mobile app for the Couch-to-5K training plan, click here! (For iPhone and Android)

Here is a printable PDF of the Couch to 5K Running Plan, with 9 weeks of training workouts listed.

Join The Couch to 5K Running Plan on Facebook too.

If I were to recommend a running plan for someone not at all used to vigorous exercise, this would be it, in fact, I know several people who have followed this plan with much success.

EASY Homemade BBQ & Mustard Sauce

Homemade BBQ
Making your own homemade BBQ or pulled pork is quite easy and a whole lot less expensive.

It is especially rewarding when you get the "oohs and awws."

Here is a simple recipe to make your own.

Cook a Boston butt cut in a slow cooker filled with water on low overnight.  (For at least 10 hours.)

Drain the water and clean meat sections with a small pairing knife.  Clean up any fat or anything you don't want in your finished product.  (Be careful, it will still remain hot for awhile.)

Next take the cleaned meat and shred in a bowl as I have pictured above.  The meat is so tender this is easy to do with a small serrated knife and fork.  Now once you have the meat at this point, it can be served as is, or... what we prefer to do... is roast whatever portion is needed.

Either roast briefly in a toaster oven or on a large pan in the oven, depending on the amount needed.  About 10-15 minutes or so at 400 degrees should do it.  It is not needing to cook, but the roasting gives it some extra flavor and dries it out a bit more like regular BBQ.

Check after a few minutes to see if it is how you like it.  I let mine stay till it gets a bit "toasty," cause I like it a bit dry.

Here is my "recipe" for our sugar free mustard BBQ sauce:
  • Yellow prepared mustard
  • Frank's Hot Sauce
  • Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Stevia Glycerite
I say "recipe" because I don't measure!   Basically I add the ingredients in a glass jar with a lid and shake to mix.  The main ingredient is mustard, and then hot sauce and so on.

For a cup of mustard I may use about a fourth a cup of hot sauce and 2 TBSP of ACV, and just a drop of stevia.  We go through this mustard sauce very quickly...so I don't measure, just guestimate.  ;)

Ingredients for our homemade mustard bbq sauce
Since we use so much sauce, I have to buy big containers of these ingredients!

Our glass mixing jar and squirt bottle for sauce
This is how we mix and store the sauce, it is really convenient to have it ready to pour and squirt!

Enjoy!!
